The United States has imposed tariffs on a large number of Chinese goods since the Trump administration in 2018. In May this year, the U.S. released the results of its four-year review of the additional Section 301 tariffs on China. U.S. President Biden decided to retain the tariff policy implemented by his predecessor, the Trump administration, and significantly increased tariffs on China's "target strategic products," including Increase import tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from 25% to over 100%, and double semiconductor tariffs to 50%. USTR issued a statement on July 30, saying: "On May 28, 2024, USTR proposed to conduct certain actions in the '301 investigation' initiated by China on its behaviors, policies and practices related to technology transfer, intellectual property and innovation. In response to the May 28 announcement, USTR received more than 1,100 comments from the public, and in consultation with the Section 301 Committee, USTR continues to review all comments and expects to issue a final determination in August 2024. The 2024 changes are expected to take effect approximately two weeks after the final decision is announced. ”
