At the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show that opened today, Cruise·Origin was officially unveiled. Cruise·Origin is a 6-seat vehicle specifically designed for driverless ride-hailing services. It will pick up passengers at designated locations and deliver them to their destinations entirely through autonomous driving. It is reported that officials plan to launch a self-driving taxi service using this model in Japan in early 2026.

Cruise·Origin is an autonomous car without a driver's seat or steering wheel. It has a huge cabin space that can be as private as a private car and can accommodate 6 people. Honda said that this driverless ride-hailing service will provide a new travel experience in Japan and target a wide range of customer groups, including business people, family users, tourists, etc.

General Motors, Cruise and Honda plan to launch the above-mentioned driverless taxi service in central Tokyo in early 2026, and then expand to other areas. Initially, the service fleet will consist of a few dozen Cruise Origin vehicles, before expanding to 500 vehicles.
